The Kinks

about

the collection

Of all the British Invasion bands that dominated the world of music in the 1960s, The Kinks were perhaps the most quintessentially English of them all. Powered by Ray Davies’ incredible skill as a songwriter, allied to the hugely inventive guitar playing of his rother Dave – he basically invented heavy metal with the riff on ‘You Really Got Me’ – The Kinks had an incredible run of singles through the 1960s in particular, a run which, had it not been for the existence of The Beatles, might have seen them regarded as Britain’s greatest pop group. There was plenty of drama on and off stage with The Kinks, a band who pioneered a theatrical presentation of their songs, as well as enduring some pretty fractious times away from the stage. Backstage Pass captures it all, from ‘Ready Steady Go’ and ‘Top of the Pops’ to all kinds of props and shocks in photoshoots and on stage.
